WIP Wednesday - HS Project

As you probably know, I am working on a project I began more than 20 years ago in high school.  After taking it out of the box and realizing that much of it was cut out and some even stitched together, I initially just put it all back in the box and tried to figure out what to do about it.  In the end, I decided to deconstruct what was already sewn together, square everything up, sew it together, square it up again, sew the blocks together, and finally sew on the borders.

I've deconstructed the blue and white blocks, re-squared the green blocks and sewed those together.

Then I squared these blocks up.

They're all nice and pretty now.

Then I began work on the blue and white squares again.  Some of these were right on and some were way off.  Luckily, I've only had one that couldn't be trimmed to the new dimensions.  I just set that aside for now.

I'm also lucky to have a sizable amount of leftover fabric so if I have to recut some squares, I'll still be OK.

  1. You're smart to take apart, square up, and go from there. It's too easy to assume that what we sewed in the past was accurate. Good luck in turning this UFO into something special.

Thank you for leaving a comment on my post requesting advice about EQ7. How lucky you are to have a husband who bought you that program.

I would have replied directly to your comment, but you're a "no reply" blogger. Your e-mail is hidden from view when you leave a comment, so we can't answer back after you leave comments.

If you'd like to change that so people can reply directly to your comments, go to the July 11 post for "sew many ways. blogspot.com" This lady gives instructions for no longer being a no-reply blogger, if you want that.
It's a wonderful way for people to meet you and get to know you and to establish conversations through blogging.
I'm an older gal. I don't tweet or have a Facebook account or send text messages. This is the limit of my social interaction, I can get as involved as I want, or ignore others and just read blogs. I enjoy it a lot.

    1. Hi Vivian. Thanks for pointing out that I am a no reply blogger. I had no idea what that meant until I read the Sew Many Ways post. I'm all fixed now. I've been reading your blog for a few months and had no idea that you are also in Iowa!

I am very lucky to have a husband that supports my fabric habit. Of course, he benefits from it - just like I benefit from his wood habit. ;o)
