Mary's Tea Cozy

I sent her a trivet made from the same collection as well.  I hope she likes it!
Happy belated birthday, Mare!

Another Tea Cozy

I've been away for far too long!  Last semester ended in a rush, then Christmas left as suddenly as it appeared and I was back in the classroom again. Holy moly... boy, did that go by quickly!

Anyway, I promised pictures of the tea cozy I gave my middle sister for her birthday.  It took her forever to get to my parents, but she finally did and now I can show the gift!

Nina had chosen this fabric collection so long ago, she'd forgotten about it.

I was cutting the insulated interior out with a little help.

I quilted around the center square and continued to spiral around beginning at 1/4" and moving outward.

I bound the edge with the same fabric I used to enlarge the panels.

And that was that.

Weekend Projects

January has been incredibly busy for us.  Honestly, not a single (healthy) day off.  This Saturday we finally were able to sleep in a little (getting up at 9am instead of 6am) and watch a little TV with our morning coffee.  Then I spent the day in the sewing room while Dr. BB played with his listserv and graded.

Dr. BB, being the wonderful hubby that he is, bought me this adorable teapot for Christmas this year.  I had spoken on a number of occasions about wanting to drink more tea, but being frustrated that one cup wasn't enough and a pot was too much.  The teapot he got me is a 3 cup pot - which is perfect!  He worried about the color, but I love it and I knew right away which fabric I would use for the tea cozy.

I had this collection (Moda's Spring Magic from a couple years ago) that had the same green and complementing colors.

I cut the charm pack in half and then one of the halves in half again (so I had two stacks of 2.5" square and one stack of 2.5" x 5" rectangles).

I then laid out the squares in rows of four by six (I later cut it down to four by five because the teapot is smaller than most).

I quilted it together with cotton batting and a nice diaper flannel interior.

I'm pretty happy with the results.  What do you think?

My next project was a portable cover for Dr. BB's sattelite radio (which was a Christmas gift). We hooked it up in his pick-up a couple weeks ago and because it's not permanent he's been putting it in his coat pocket for "safe-keeping."  Now, I'm sure you can see where some issues may arise (scratching the face, losing track of it, etc.).  So in order to create some protection, I took a scrap of fleece I had leftover from another project and created this pocket pouch for the radio.

I liked the way this project came out, too.  Very portable.

Stay tuned for more...
