Spring!

Spring came quite early to the Midwest this year.  We had a mild winter to begin with, but March saw two weeks of 90* weather!  As a result, all the plants that would normally not bloom until April or May bloomed in the last week of March/first week of April.  Here is a selection of the blooms in our yard.

Having bought the house in August after a summer of flooding, we really weren't sure what (if anything) was already planted... except daylillies... TONS of daylillies.  I'm not overly found of daylillies because of how they take over.  I discovered this spring that I have a peony being overgrown by daylillies... that. will. not. happen!  I MUCH prefer peonies to daylillies.  I was pleasantly surprised to find a clump of lilly of the valley, though.  We bought some root stock for the front walk, but we'll transplant the group we discovered in the area that will become the herb garden.

I can't wait for my semester to be over so I can get out and truly work in the yard!

    1. Thank you, Susan. They did smell divine! We planted some Korean Dwarf Lilacs beside our porch last fall (got them on super sale at the end of the season), but neither of us knew much about them. They won't grow taller than 4 feet - which makes them perfect for beside the porch, but I can't believe how strong their scent is! I'm so happy about that. :)
